Exercice in adolescents: beneficial effects on working memory, especially for youths having difficulties
The goal of this study was to investigate the effects of a short physical exercice on cortisol and testosterone levels as well as on working memory capacities in adolescents of 15 and 16 years of age. Participants were exposed to three different conditions: a control condition where they were inactive and two exercice conditions, one with low intensity and the other one with high intensity. The results of the study demonstrated that intense physical activity increased cortisol and testosterone levels. Moreover, physical activity – regardless of the intensity – had a beneficial effect on working memory capacities for those youths who were having difficulties on tasks beforehand.
