Screening participants with a demographic questionnaire
During the screening phase of the study, participants who have expressed their interest in participating in the study are asked a series of questions as shown in the sample demographic questionnaire below. Depending on the nature of the research study, this questionnaire helps to exclude participants from your study. For example, when measuring levels of cortisol in a study, it is important that participants taking medication consisting of corticosteroids (a synthetic form of cortisol), as this will affect your cortisol results.
Alternatively, we use our screenings to obtain demographic information that can be used in understanding our sample. These can be used in preliminary descriptive statistics to ascertain any confounding influences.
